Preconditions to use Instagram Insights integration

To connect your Instagram account to Coupler.io, please make sure your Instagram and Facebook accounts have specific permissions and settings:

1. Reports provided by Coupler.io

Frequently Used

  • Profile: account overview - Provides general profile information: bio, website link, number of posts, follower and follow count.
  • Profile: performance by day - Shows profile daily performance data (e.g. reach, impressions, external links clicks), allowing insights into day-to-day trends.
  • Post: performance totals - Summarizes the lifetime performance of posts (including reels).
    • Note: Instagram does not provide daily (or other periods) breakdown for posts insights.
  • Profile: performance totals - Offers a comprehensive summary of the profile's performance over selected period.
  • Profile: followers daily breakdown (last 30 days) - Gives daily changes in followers over the last 30 days.
    • Note: Instagram does not allow to get followers gain trend for dates earlier than 30 days ago.
  • Profile: followers demography insights - Provides demographic insights on followers, such as age, gender, and location.

Post insights

  • Post: comment details review - Delivers details about comments on posts, likes to these comments and replies.
  • Post: profile interactions breakdown - Breaks down interactions originating from specific posts to identify how they affect overall profile engagement.

Story insights

Note: data available within 24 hours - it is Instagram API limitation.

  • Story: performance totals  - Summarizes the total performance of stories over the past 24 hours.
  • Story: navigation by action type - Details user navigation actions, such as swipes and taps, in stories during the past 24 hours.
  • Story: profile interactions breakdown - Analyzes interactions stemming from stories and provides a detailed breakdown of these engagements.

Profile insights

  • Profile: performance by media type - Evaluates the performance of various media types (photos, videos, etc.) shared on the profile.
  • Profile: performance by follow type - Examines performance based on how followers interact with the profile.
  • Profile: links taps by contact button type - Tracks how often different contact buttons are tapped.
  • Profile: reach by media product type and follow type - Shows the reach of different types of media and the effect of various follower categories.
  • Profile: new audience demography insights - Offers insights into the demographics of new followers.

2. Metrics and Dimensions each report provides

Coupler.io's Instagram Insights integration supports a wide array of metrics and dimensions, allowing for in-depth analysis of your Instagram data. Metrics refer to the quantitative measures (e.g., impressions, engagements), while dimensions provide the context for metrics (e.g., post type, follower demographics).

3. Set up Instagram Insights integration

The below instruction covers setting up an integration with Instagram Insights from scratch.

To set up an integration from a pre-set dashboard template, visit our Dashboard examples and reporting templates page.

Step 1: Source application

Select "Instagram Insights" as your source application to begin the integration process.

Step 2: Source account

Connect your Instagram account as the source. Ensure that your account is an Instagram Business Account, as personal accounts do not support insights data.

Step 3: Basic settings

Configure the basic settings for your report:

  • Profiles: Select the Instagram profiles you wish to analyze.
  • Report type: Choose from the list of available report types that best fits your analysis needs.

Step 4: Report period

Define the period for your report:

  • Start date: Specify the start date from which you want to begin collecting data.
  • End date: Define the end date for your data collection period.

Step 5: Metrics and dimensions (for demography report only)

Select the metrics and dimensions that you want to include in your report:

  • Metrics: Select the specific metrics you wish to analyze within the demography report.
  • Dimensions: Choose the dimensions that will provide context to your metrics, such as age, gender, and location.

4. Transform your data with Coupler.io

With Coupler.io's Preview and Transformation block, you can:

  • Preview your data for accuracy.
  • Manage columns by hiding, or rearranging key data.
  • Apply filters and sorting to focus on relevant information.
  • Add formula-based fields for enhanced metrics.
  • Combine datasets using data union and join features for a comprehensive analysis.

5. Set up your data destination

Continue setting up the integration depending on the system you want to import data to. Select your tool from the list of supported data destinations and follow the relevant setup guide.

6. Update your data automatically on schedule

Turn on "Automatic data refresh" in the importer so your data remains up-to-date in the destination without requiring manual updates. 

You can schedule data imports at specific intervals (e.g., hourly, daily, weekly) and/or days, allowing you to have up-to-date information available for analysis, reporting, or decision-making. This automation enhances efficiency and ensures your reports or dashboards are always populated with the latest data.
