Google Analytics 4 data source

Learn how to set up a Google Analytics 4 data source and move your data to one of the data destinations supported by Coupler.io.

Two steps to complete the setup

  1. Set up your data source
  2. Set up your data destination

1. Set up your data source

1.1. Select an application: Google Analytics 4

1.2. Connect your Google Analytics account

  • Click "Sign in with Google".
  • Log in to the Google account.
  • Provide needed consent:

1.3. Setup Basic settings

1.3.1. Account - select one of the connected Google Analytics accounts that contains at least one property:

1.3.2. Property - select one of the properties available in your account:

1.4. Set up Advanced settings

1.4.1. Dimensions - select up to 9 dimensions for your report (e.g. Operating system and Browser).

Coupler.io supports default Gooogle Analytics 4 dimensions and custom, user-created dimensions,

1.4.2. Metrics - select up to 10 metrics for your report from the list that includes default and custom metrics.

You must select at least one metric and one dimension.

Note that dimensions and metrics must be compatible with one another for the importer to run. For example, adding ‘Referrer’ as a dimension and “Ads clicks” as a metric will trigger an error:

400 Please remove advertiserAdClicks to make the request compatible. The request's dimensions & metrics are incompatible. To learn more, see https://ga-dev-tools.web.app/ga4/dimensions-metrics-explorer/

The mentioned tool is not an official Google’s resource but can be nevertheless really helpful in figuring out the compatible set of metrics and dimensions.

1.4.3. Report start date and Report end date - specify the time period that your report should cover.

Enter dates in format YYYY-MM-DD (e.g. 2021-12-01, 2022-12-31) or use date macro (e.g. {{thisyearstart}}, {{thisyearend}}). End date can never be before the start date.

  • If you keep "Report start date" empty - by default date 30 days ago will be used.
  • If you keep "Report end date" empty - by default today's date will be used.

With the default settings, every time an importer runs, it will fetch the data for the last 30 days.

1.4.4. Summarize metrics - Coupler.io can add a separate row with the total, maximum, and/or minimum values of the selected metric. Leave this field blank and no additional rows will be created.

Here’s how your final report may look like:

Above we highlighted:

  • blue columns that represent selected dimensions
  • yellow columns that are the chosen metrics
  • and an additional row at the bottom - summarized values for each metric

Note: The actual report with the chosen metrics and dimensions will probably be much bigger and won’t be as colorful as ours. You’ll have to color it yourself if you’d like ;-)

2. Set up your data destination

Continue setting up the integration depending on the application you want to import the data to. Select your tool from the list of supported data destinations and follow the relevant setup guide.
