How to refresh data in your Power BI dashboard with Coupler.io?

First of all - set up your integration with Coupler.io as described in this instruction: Power BI destination setup and build your report in Power BI. 

After everything is done - let's review how your dashboard can be updated with fresh data from Coupler.io - there are several ways to do it:

  • you can do it manually in Power BI Desktop or Online
  • you can define an automatic schedule (only for dashboards published to the Power BI online)

Manual data refresh in Power BI Desktop

  1. Go to your Coupler.io importer and run it.
  2. Wait until the importer execution finishes, so Coupler.io will provide new data for the Power BI destination.
  3. Open the Power BI dashboard that uses Coupler.io - click Refresh to get new data 

Manual data refresh in Power BI Online

  1. Go to your Coupler.io importer and run it.
  2. Wait until the importer execution finishes, so Coupler.io will provide new data for the Power BI destination.
  3. Open your Power BI dashboard in your browser.
  4. Click three dots in the top menu -> View semantic model: 
  5. Click "Refresh" in the top menu -> "Refresh now": 

Automatic data refresh in Power BI Desktop

Unfortunately, the Desktop version does not support this approach. To have your dashboard updated automatically on a defined schedule - please proceed with the next steps.

Automatic data refresh in Power BI Online

  1. Once you setup your Power BI dashboard in the Desktop app -> Publish your dashboard to Power BI Online:
  2.  Select your workspace: 
  3. Wait until the dashboard is published: 
  4. Navigate to the published dashboard in Power BI Online (it will be opened in your browser): 
  5. Click three dots in the top menu -> View semantic model: 
  6. Click "Refresh" in the top menu -> "Schedule refresh": 
  7. Enable data refresh: 
  8. Click "Add another time" to add time when you want Power BI to call Coupler.io for new data: 
  9. Add needed time and click "Apply: 

Important note: Scheduled time in Power BI should be after Coupler.io scheduled time + time that is needed for the import job to finish its work. Import time in Coupler.io depends on your source and amount of data, however, we recommend having a 30+ minute delay in case your source is HubSpot or Pipedrive, and 10+ minutes for other sources. For example:
