How to keep old metrics historical values?

For "Profile: performance by day" & "Profile: followers daily breakdown (last 30 days)" reports

You may download data for last 2 years in Google Sheet, Excel or any database destination (e.g. BigQuery) - before metrics deprecation.

Source settings (adjust date settings according to day you download data - Start date can be maximum 2 years before today (e.g. today is 24th of Dec 2024, start date can be maximum 25th of Dec 2022):

Destination - define your settings and load data:

If you want to use this data later together with newly loaded data from Instagram Insights source:

Setup source from your destination (where historical data is stored):

Setup Instagram Insights source for new dates:

Use Append transformation:

As result you will have new data (without deprecated metrics) together with historical (with old data for deprecated metrics) for your further usage.

For Report "Post insights: all posts"

You may load historical data as well, and them use it to enrich recent data loads using Join transformation, for this:

Load posts data to destination (before metrics deprecation).

Use destination file above as source, remove or hide all fields except Account name, Post Id and Video views.

Setup Instagram Insights source for posts.

Use Join by Account name and Post Id:

This way you will get all new data for your posts + historical values for video views saved before this metrics becomes deprecated.

Actions after update released

This update will take effect automatically and no further action is required if you don’t need the deprecated metrics moving forward. You may proceed with next optional actions:

Use historical data in you data flows

Review instructions in "How to keep old metrics historical values" section for affected reports.

Update output schema for affected reports

You will receive a schema change notification on affected data flows.

You can ignore the notification: your importer will continue using the previous schema, and you can apply the new schema later.

You also can get rid of the notification by selectiong one of the options (!these actions are not revertable!):

  • To keep the current schema (useful for databases and append mode in destination): Click "Keep old one".
  • To apply the new schema (removing deprecated metrics): Click "Apply new"

💫 In case you need any help to adjust your data flows or dashboards to get rid of deprecated metrics or to include historical data in them - feel free to contact our support team using email - contact@coupler.io.
