1. How Coupler.io works
Yes, Coupler.io always overwrites all data starting from the top-left cell specified.
2. What Coupler.io team recommends
That is why we recommend our users to keep all calculations (incl. formulas) on the left side of your imported data set.
We've chosen this approach for some technical reasons.
- We believe that the way Coupler.io does it now is the most balanced solution in terms of functionality (giving the way to keep import and calculations in the same sheet) and performance (on the large sets of data).
- In addition, it is safer in case if the number of columns in your data set grows. Otherwise, new columns might override your calculations on the right side.

Below is an example where we imported data to an Excel sheet and left the first column and first row empty. After that, we used formulas to populate the first column with the total amount for sold entities: Qty Sold x Price per item (C column x D column) and first row to calculate total sales amount - as the sum of values in A column. The importer was configured to use Cell address = B2, so after data was inserted we got calculated values of sales per product and total:
